Production information on Sako Rifles.

Beretta acquired Sako in the year 2000, and has record of the serial number and the date we received a rifle in our inventory since that time. For information on rifles imported by Beretta USA please log in to our "Ask a Question " section and submit your request for this date along with the serial number. You may also click here

For older Sako models see the list below.  Missing from the records are the rifle numbers that were imported by Stoeger Corporation.

One book related to the history of Sako is titled "Arma Fennica". It was published as a three-volume set.  Volume 1 provides historical data on Sako. This book was published in both Finnish and English. To our knowledge, it is out of print. While this is a great reference book, serial number listings are not included.

To use this chart, you must first know your rifle’s model number. The model number is stamped on the action of your rifle, and you will match this number in the model or notes column of the chart. Once you have found your model in the chart, compare your serial number with the range listed in the first and last number column of the chart. Once you have determined where your number falls within the listed number range, you will be able to approximate the build date from the date range listed in the first and last date column of the chart.

For example, the P46 serial numbers started at 0001 in 1948 and ended at number 9500 in 1951, this means on average that 3,167 rifles were built per year. If your number falls below this it was made in 1948, above this rifle number, it was built in 1950 or 1951.

This information was supplied directly by Sako, they do not have records of what caliber or variation your rifle was supplied in.
